These camps are for confident swimmers age 10 and up. First day is spent at Maxcy Gregg Pool; all other days are on the Saluda River. Camps will be lead by Andrew and Karen Kustafik. This camp builds confidence and skill, instilling valuable life lessons. Campers will become familiar with river safety and boating techniques.

River Resources Adventure Camp:
June 15-19 Broad and Saluda Rivers
June 22-26 Saluda and Congaree Rivers
Overnight ‘wilderness’ camp Monday-Friday
$100 Camp Fee plus $ 100 Food & Equipment
Overnight all week, recommended ages 12 and up, willing and able to paddle many miles of river in all conditions. Kids should expect to be grimy and exhausted! We hope that this trip will be a life changing experience, instilling a great sense of place and a conservation ethic in campers.
Campers will spend a week on the water, exploring the varied character of fall line rapids on the Saluda, Broad and Congaree Rivers. The Broad River Session includes Fishing 101 and concludes with a family paddle on Friday to include those parents who would like to spend a day on the river with us. The Saluda river Session is a 60 mile journey from the Saluda Hydro to the 601 bridge.
Restrictions on bus travel lead us to modify Adventure Camp again this year. I hope you will welcome it as an opportunity to do something completely different. I believe that it will give us all a unique perception of our waterways. We will have staff support for food runs where possible, so we will not have to pack all our food down river. We will pack our tarps and sleeping bags and clothing in the boats with us.
Ranger Andy Grizzell has returned from last summer’s thru hike of the AT and will join Karen Kustafik for this year’s camps. Both are experienced river guides and camp leaders.
E-mail Karen at kakustafik@columbiasc.net for camp waivers and additional details. Or call 315.7938 for more information. Payment can be made in person by check or credit card or mailed to City of Columbia Parks & Recreation Department, 1932 Calhoun St; Columbia, SC 29201
